treasure

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.  Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.  Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19‭-‬21 NLT

Treasure hunting is a popular theme of many books, and games. It fills our hearts and minds with wonder. We see tomb treasure hunters, lost wreck divers hunting for gold, seekers of rare minerals, diamonds and gold. These are all temporal, not eternal. We cannot take them with us. We must hide them away from thieves, and rarely use them.

The queen of England has vast, beautiful jewels, stored in the Tower of London, under strict, amd very tight security. These same jewels have been subjected to endless attempts of theft.

Jesus knew well what He was saying when He instructed His followers to store up treasure in heaven where nothing can steal it.

We earthlings are temporal. We belong in eternity. What we do here stores up treasure for our eternity. We cannot afford to live here as if this is all there is to life, but rather live as if this is an apprenticeship for eternity.

What am I storing in eternity? What are you storing in eternity? These questions we need to answer, as they are essential to our eternal story. Amen!
