money and the poor

One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.

What is witholding what is right? What is right? To know this more fully we need to take the whole counsel of scripture. However, it would be prudent to listen to what Jesus said:
Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over — will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use,   it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 

There are around 25 scriptures about not neglecting the poor and needy. Deuteronomy, the book of law, spells out fair treatment of the poor. Farmers were to not glean right to the edges of their fields, but to leave the edges for the poor.

Amos has a lot to say about the mistreatment of the poor. God sees, and is not impressed. This speaks to our considering our income 'all ours to spend.' What about the tithe? What about the poor?

In a time of larger and larger TV screens, the poor cry out for justice. We cannot ignore them. Amen!

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
