Jesus is the way

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 NLT

Jesus said these words to the disciple Thomas who asked Him to please explain what He meant when He said He would prepare a place for them.

On Friday night I had a friend who loves board games bring over a new game. I struggled to understand the game play due to her not explaining it simply. By the end of the game I showed I had caught the way as I won. I had, without her explaining sufficiently, understood I  needed to accumulate certain property.

Thomas is displaying a similar need to Jesus. Jesus had said that when He goes away He will prepare  place for them and then they will be able to follow. Thomas' complaint was: how can we follow if we don't know the way? The above verse is Jesus adding some clarity. He was the way. However, I understand Thomas' dilema. He was thinking naturally, as in going on a journey from point A to point B. Jesus was introducing spiritual concepts. Because of the struggle I had with the board game I understand Thomas' struggle. It is like: more information, keep talking until I get the point! Like me and the board game, Thomas did eventually get the point that faith was required.

Faith is required to accept Jesus as being the only answer. Having invited Him into my life I had to learn to trust Him with the way.

Keep trusting!
