seek what is above

So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1 HCSB

This scripture begs the question: what is above? What is it about heaven that I need to seek?

Jesus, in His life on earth may have given us a clue: He taught His disciples how to pray. If we look at the Lord's prayer: our Father, who is in heaven, Holy be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven... if we then look at His prayers that His disciples capturered in the gospels we see a pattern:
Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You,  for You gave Him authority over all flesh;   so He may give eternal life  to all You have given Him. Jn 17:1,2

Jesus spoke to God as He would an earrhly Father: Father.... in the above scripture we see Jesus asking for an endowment so that He might do the will of the Father, in this instance, go to the cross.

He taught us to pray: our father. Jesus portrayed an obedient Son. He obeyed His Father even to death on the cross. He tells us to pick up our cross and follow Him (in onedience). This is a good start! Amen!
