He humbled Himself

Instead, he gave up his divine privileges ; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:7‭-‬8 NLT

A lot of what happened above we did not see. Jesus humbling Himself to lay aside His deity to be born a man would be huge as He would have seen in advance the cross, the shame and rejection of the mankind He sought to save.

Jesus would also know that those He was closest to would desert Him. He would have to walk the difficult path alone, except for the presence of the Father it would be unbearable.

Jesus' cry on the cross: "My God my God why have You forsaken me?" Does this show He did not forsee this? This was the ultimate loss, the devastation of soul, yet the fulfilling cost. The cross represented all our sin, Jesus was the lamb that was slain for our sin.

His desolation is our guarantee of presence and forgiveness. Thank You Jesus!
