wanting our own way
Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

Wanting our own way has serious consequences. In the process of enforcing our will on others we rob them of relationship, love, honour, respect.
I have watched this play out today. I have a grandson who is autistic and today he had a melt down and continued to rail against what he thought was unfair. Basically unfair was anything that was not what he wanted.
Obviously I was the recipient of much of the angst as I was in charge whilst mum and dad were having a break. I called it for what it was and he went away. Autism is a most severe emotional problem and cannot be treated lightly but neither can it rule. Working the balance and bringing God's will can be challenging.
