what is love?
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT

I grew up through the 60s and 70s, the flower power generation, and the Beetles singing: All you need is love. Mankind does belive that love is the answer, it just has warped ideas about what love looks like. The takeaway from that era was: its all about free sex.
Unfortunately this warped notion started a sideways dance away from truth. What then is the truth? What is love?
Paul tells us in the same chapter of 1 Cor 13: Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
This is the kind of love Jesus demonstrated. His ultimate act of love was dying on the cross.
John 3:16 tells us why:
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 NLT
Sacrifical love is what is required, the type that can only be found through a relationship with Christ.
This happens when we invite Christ into our hearts, asking Him to be Lord of our lives. Amen!
