fasting, weeping, mourning

12 That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Joel 2:12 NLT

Why is fasting, weeping and mourning required? Verse 13 tells us: ...return to the Lord. This means the people were away from the Lord. Joel says, just before this: tear your hearts and not just your clothes. The people were good at a form of religion but their hearts were far from Him.

Does this apply to us? Are we used to just showing up on Sunday, maybe looking at our bible App, like we would a promise box and expecting that snatch to sustain us against the onslaught that comes throughout the day? Do we seek more leisure time watching movies that tear apart our beliefs in the sanctity of marriage, purity before marriage, the rights of the unborn? Which God do we serve? Entertainment or our holy God?

If we know we are serving leisure and self, then we are the god, we have replaced our God. Therefore, we need to repent with fasting, weeping and mourning, repenting of our sins and being made right before our holy God.

He is coming soon. This time with judgement. The earth is about to experience the reality of a holy God. Amen!
