Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable — if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise — dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8 HCSB

I needed this verse today. I am facing a confrontation which I would rather walk away from, but know I must have. For the longest time I have prayed for my local astronomy club and next week we have the AGM. Only recently a decision was made by the committee which I believe was wrong and not thought through. I am the only active woman in the club and thus I put my name forward for voting on a position in the club. Yesterday I discovered that for the position I nominated for there is one other, all other positions are represented by only one person. I am a fly in the ointment. The committee would have been cosy, if not for me. One of the people who supported my nomination was approached by a high standing current member asking why he supported me. The inference was he was disturbing a done deal.
Now, it is easy to allow my mind to churn over the whys and wherefores. However, I am leading up to exams next week at uni and do not need the pressure. I am again, having to focus my thoughts on Christ and allow Him to be Lord.
I am sure Paul knew what he was saying when he wrote this verse. He had been through many such confrontations, for him it meant jail or flogging or stoning. I think I will escape without these. If all I have is candid opposition, smirking or silence, I can cope. I make a stand for the silent majority, the women, youth and children yet to come.
