His gift

The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

Today we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. While much debate has taken place about the exact date, I already celebrate my Queen's birthday on a day that isn't her actual birthday. The date was chosen by the Australian government, and probably had her approval. Nonetheless, it was chosen as a day to honour our sovereign. In the same way, therefore, I can honour my mighty deliverer on this day as the day He came.

The significance of the day of His birth is momentous. He came because of His love for us, and in particular me. What god humbles Himself in such a way? What god became human, to live and die, and rise again, all for those He loved? None but Jesus. He also doomed Himself to 30 years of obscurity in a small town in Galilee called Nazareth. All other so called gods are full of 'look at me,' whereas Jesus kept telling people to keep it quiet. Yet, He did what no other god has done: He healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry, and had compassion on the multitude.

God the Father committed the infant Jesus into the hands of two lowly peasants. He knew He could trust them and that all heaven would protect them. These two, Mary amd Joseph, had charge in the raising of the baby to manhood. This they did well, so well in fact that His siblings did not recognise Him as a savior until He rose from the dead.

Today, I can trust the Father has my interests at heart, even now some 2000 odd years later. His loved has not dimmed and the efficacy of the sacrifice is still as potent today as ever. Today I can celebrate the best gift I have ever received,  eternal life and forgiveness of sin. I am truely blessed! Thank You Lord! Amen!
