do it!
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
James 1:22-24 NLT

Those of us who have been parents could remember arguing with a rebellious child, and in the end saying, "Just do it!"
James is basically saying the same thing. James is a very forthright, no nonsense leader. He tells things like they are.
There is no illusion here. No soft pedalling, no sympathy. His half-brother Jesus was kinder, but also forthright. James came to faith after Jesus had been crucified and risen from the dead. That would have been what is called a paradigm shift. He thoroughly believed a certain way, that Jesus want the Messiah to knowing he definitely was.
Once we come to know Christ we know our old life was underrated. Now we know Christ we know there is a better way, and must live it! Amen!
