offended?

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

When going through difficult times for extended periods and a scripture like this comes to you, are you encouraged or offended? Do you think your times of trial have been too long? Where is God in this?

The prophet Elijah had a time of disappointment. He had a confrontation with King Ahab, Queen Jezebel and the false priests. It seemed as if everyone had deserted God and him. He had seen a mighty miracle when he challenged the false priests to a contest. They built two altars and placed their sacrifices on them. He let them go first.  They were to call on their gods to rain fire on their sacrifice. This they did all day long whilst he mocked them. Then it was his turn. He doused the wood and sacrifice with water several times and then prayed. Fire came from heaven and consumed the sacrifice. He then killed the false priests. However, Queen Jezebel threatened him with his life and he ran. Elijah became depressed because he was alone in the struggle,  or so he thought. God told him that He had 8000 men who had not bowed to Baal. God then sent ravens to feed him and on the strength of that  food he travelled, without food, for 40 days to meet with God.

We can be alone in the struggle and at times it feels as if God has forsaken us, especially when we have lost family, finance and homes. However, just as God was with Elijah, God is also with us through our difficult times. We have an eternal home waiting for us and God has family for us in His people. His provision is always there. We just like it how we think it should be.

Come to God and allow Him to touch your heart as He did Elijah.  God used this man mightily,  get over your weeping and trust. Amen!
