standing pure

But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked. This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.” psalm 106:30,31

What did Phinehas do? Numbers 25:1-9 tells us that the children of Israel had forsaken the Lord and the men were having sex with Midianite women and worshipping their Baal. The Lord was angry and a plague broke out killing 24,000 people. Phinehas saw one of the leaders bringing a Midianite woman into the camp. He took a spear and followed them into the tent and killed them. Brutal but effective. Phinehas was one of the priests.

We no longer have to deal with things in this way, as in murder, but confrontation can be verbal. When sexual sin enters a church it pollutes it. In the book of Revelation Jesus addresses His churches: two were tolerating sexual sin, one had its heart in financial treasure, one had gone cold,  one had a reputation of being alive, but was dead, one was lukewarm. Jesus challenged all that had gone astray and threatened to remove their lampstand, His presence.

Jesus is serious about purity, holiness and faithfulness. We need tor remember this and not be deceived. Amen!
