walking wisely

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. Proverbs 13:20 NLT

How do we know we have wise friends? They walk according to biblical principles, and encourage us to do likewise. We often see how wise a person is by watching them in calamity or prosperity. Do they fall apart and act like it is all up to them? Or do they ask you to pray with them?

Today, more than ever, we need wise friends. Ones that will call out the best in us, urge us on the higher levels, ones that will dispute opinions with us, help us to discern truth rightly.

Job thought he had wise friends, and they were for a few days, they kept silent in his suffering. However, all but one found fault with him. His calamity must of been because he was sinful, they decided. Now, not only was he sick and mourning, Job had to defend himself. At this point, he needed them like a hole in his head. His wife was not much help either, she told him to curse God and die.

Job was in dire straits. He needed a good friend, a comforter, the Holy Spirit. When God showed up, it was all he needed. To know He had not left Job, but was with him. Knowing God is with us is, often, all we need. Amen!
