why we are comforted
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

Did you realise that when we are comforted by the Holy Spirit we now have the capacity, and responsibility of comforting others? I never really thought about this, but it is right.
When my mother died, after a long and often painful illness, we were submersed in COVID restrictions. I was suddenly alone, as I had been mum's carer. My God was so good to me in that time, I did not really struggle until we came out of lockdown. Then I reached out to friends. We made a practice of getting together most Friday nights to have a meal and play games. I so appreciated my friends in that time.
Now, two years later I can be a comfort to others. I know what grief and pain feels like, and as I have come through, they will also.
I understand now that this scripture tells us: you will be comforted, when through, comfort others. Amen!
