“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. John 10:11 NLT
Jesus was comparing Himself to the Pharisees and Saducees, who loved to rule over people, but who would not lay down their lives for the people but rather, let them be consumed by their enemies.
Laying down our lives for people does not mean we allow ourselves to be used and abused senselessly. It means we will forgo earthly pleasure and attitudes for others. Rights have no place in the Kingdom, except the right of the Son of God who lay down His life for us and told us to take up our cross and follow Him.
The Christian world that lives for bigger and better toys is foolishly mistaken. We are called to live circumspectly knowing when enough is enough, knowing what is seed and what is bread. Seed is for sowing and bread is for eating.
The Pharisees knew how to tithe but neglected care for people. They were religious. We cannot afford to be religious, but rather smitten with all Christ is and does, and willing to follow. Amen
