“That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
Joel 2:12-13 NLT
The book of Joel is hard to date as the prophet gives no background information. However, it is famous for the passage above , but also the prophesy regarding an outpouring of God’s spirit as it was seen at Pentecost.
We are now in a time of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the result is repentance. Repentance is a gift from God. Scripture tells us that Esau sought repentance but did not find it(Hebrew 12:17). My constant prayer for those who are dying is the gift of repentance. Only in repentance can we see God.
Repentance is a deep awareness of sin and a desire to be right with God. This is happening in many places. The place that has captured the media attention is Ashbury in America. This came about because of the faithful prayer of one man, that we know of.
This example encourages me to be faithful in prayer. There is also an outpouring in the Philippines that I now know of. I have a brother living in that country and am keen, now, to visit.
Holy Spirit let Your fire fall. Amen!
