Leave her alone

“Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.””
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The words:’ leave her alone’ are so what we would say. They ring true to me because when a critical person is attacking someone we care for or appreciate we defend their actions. Jesus knew the heart from which the accusation came. It was Judas. By now his spirit was becoming darkened as he stole money from the treasury constantly. Mary, Lazarus’ sister  had poured expensive ointment over his feet and wiped them with her hair. Lazarus and his two sisters Martha and Mary were good friends of Jesus. Can you see Jesus’ exasperation with Judas and his greed.

Jesus also knew that the time was swiftly coming for His crucifixion. He would have appreciated this act of adoration.

It is interesting that Jesus said, “You will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have Me.” Judas had said that the ointment could be sold and the money given to the poor. Perhaps this was something Jesus did anyway. However, He was reminding Judas of His future. Unfortunately, Judas did not know his future, it was not good .

Perspective is so important, so is context.
