“But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.”Jude 1:20-21 NLT
These passages are a divine, simple recipe. If we just do these things we will be safe in God’s love.
Building each other up in our most holy faith requires us living intentional lives towards others and not living just for ourselves. For we must have community functioning in our lives. As I come to the completion of my first week in Nepal I am seeing community around me. When I walk to the shops I see the man who builds household items, he always smiles and would love a chat. I say Namaste (hello). Yesterday I went to the grocery store for stock cubes and as I exited the store there was a poor man folding cardboard boxes to put on his bike. He takes it to sell. I smiled and asked if I may have a box, he gave me a toothless grin and replied in the affirmative. These two men need Jesus. By recognising they are valid human beings I have given them recognition. Today in my lessons I want to find the words to tell them about Jesus.
I live with two Christian Nepali women. We have beautiful fellowship every evening, we read the scriptures and pray. We try to have Christian music playing most of the time and the place is filled with Jesus. Last night I cooked soup for us as it is quite cold and we do not yet have heating. I have said I want to purchase a heater and they said, “No! It will get warm soon!” It is still cold. The alternative is tor eat chillies. My stomach is not quite ready for them yet as I am recovering from a bug.
I am the only one who prays in tongues and am leading them to study Acts and to pray for them for this gift. The gift of tongues does indeed build you up and help with prayers. It fills the house with the fragrance of the Holy Spirit. Praise Him!
