Conquering evil

“Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Evil is all around us, tempting us, attacking us. What do we do? We recognise how it is interacting with us and respond appropriately.

If I am being tempted I use scripture, just as Jesus did, to fight off the enemy. If I am being attacked I pray, diligently and strongly for the souls of those attacking me. I bind the spirits driving their attacks and rebuff the spirits.

The last part of the above scripture says: ‘by doing good’. What good can I do? I must recognise my own flesh and subdue it, I can recognise the flesh of others and confront it, I can go outside of both of these and find people who need good doing to them.

I am in Silnhulpalchowk helping set up a flat there. My bed is almost as hard as concrete and my back is rebelling. The food is plain dhal bhaat twice a day. If I want to avoid ‘piro’ (chilly, very hot chilly) my fare is white rice and cooked lentils. The alternative is junk food in a little shop downstairs. I am drinking a lot of black tea to prevent belly woes. I am in amidst Nepali speaking people who are wanting to speak to me. I am having to use my translator as well as my existing knowledge. My colleague Thomas went off to the big town nearby to buy supplies for the flat, these did not include food. The locals eat and at 8pm at night, way too late for me. Im ready for bed then after a long day.

Yesterday evening I was invited to fellowship as well as dinner and declined. Thomas returned with food for me at 9:25pm. I took a few mouthfuls and went to sleep.

I have spent my time getting to know the locals and sorting old clothes we brought with us from Kathmandu. Onky the good will go to those in need. The not so good will be shredded to make mats. Some good clothes need cleaning. If I can wash them I will but some are only dry cleanable. There is no dry cleaner in the area and so I will probably have to cart them back to Kathmandu and pay for the cleaning.

Yesterday I met a poor lady who needed clothes for herself and children. One of Thomas’ Aunts and I sorted through the clothes and gave her supplies, she loved it.

When another aunts children arrived I taught them a game. We had fun!

All the time I had to manage myself and keep love on! No room for selfishness. Amen!
