What can you see?

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There are plenty of troubles to be found, if we are looking for trouble. If our mind is bent on ‘oh! Poor me! However, a heart of gratitude sees a different perspective. What can I be grateful for? What is God doing in my life? What is He asking me to be involved with, right here, right now?

I have spent the last week doing not much at all, in a remote village in Sindhulpalchok, Nepal. I had a week off college and decided to visit friends and stay in a village to experience village life. It has been quiet, apart from an initial setting up of the flat I am staying in and sorting clothes for donation, daily I am the cook. I have one gas burner on which I cook daal, rice, vegetables, meat or eggs, and pickle. The amount I cook lasts all day and some leftovers.I have visitors popping in, the best was last night when a brother and sister in Christ called. We problem solved and prayed together.

The kitchen has a window that does not have glass and which allows in big spiders. I found one yesterday under the sink. I am not partial to big spiders, even if they are harmless.

However, what am I grateful for? The love and faithfulness of the Christian family in this village. They built a church on the hill above me. At night a red cross glows in the dark leading the way.  I am grateful for the old lady, my age, who has a tea shop downstairs and who faithfully makes me sweet milk tea. This lady is the only unbeliever in the family, I want to know why? Why can she not put her faith in Jesus? Is it because she has a disabled daughter?

If I am here for this lady, so be it! I return to Kathmandu today and will return to the village in the coming weeks. I pray the Lord reveals the way. Amen!
