My hope

“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!”Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This psalm was written by the sons of Korah. Korah was a clan of God’s people who rebelled against Moses. The earth opened up under them and swallowed them up. However, a remnant were left, the sons. These were Levites and they served in the house of God.

This psalm depicts a separation from the house of God. It starts with: ‘as a deer pants for water so my soul longs after thee’. It is a beautiful phrase. For some reason the sons of Korah were unable to be in the house of God. They may have gone with David when his son was attempting to usurp the throne. In their day they believed God’s presence was in His temple.

We who have accepted Jesus as saviour have His indwelling Holy Spirit. We are now God’s temple. He never leaves. Yet, there are times when we long to feel His presence. He places that hunger there.

The psalmist reminds himself, after each lament, ‘my hope is in God’. He begins to praise the Lord. This is also our path to the presence of the Lord. He is our hope and song.

Sorrow over circumstances can make us feel alone and in need of comfort. Our God is our comfort. Nothing else heals us like He does. He is enough! Amen!

It follows Abraham and his descendants to Egypt and beyond to the promised land.  We need reminding how faithful God has been to us in the past. It is good to show gratitude for all His deliverances and miracles of provision, to remember His faithfulness instead of complaining about His failure to solve a problem. Gratitude releases my heart from complaint. It changes my whole perspective about circumstances in my childhood. I no longer remember the bad done to me, but instead my heart is filled with gratitude. Speaking of God’s faithfulness brings an atmosphere of life into our current circumstances. God’s life changes things. Bring life not death! Amen!

Eternal Life

Teacher I beg you to look at my son because he is my only don. Luke 9:38 For God so loved the world He sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Luke has several stories about parents losing single children. Jesus healed them all. The Only Son reached out to these single child families. Jesus was the favoured only Son. Yet the Father knew He was the Only answer. Abraham was tested regarding his willingness to give up his only son, way back in the beginning, but he was spared because there was one destined to come and pay the perfect price. Amen! The blood of Christ was perfect as it was without spot or blemish. There was great power in that blood, enough power for all men, for all time. The blood secures us freedom from eternal darkness, it brings us into eternal life. Amen! Invite Him in and watch 'life' change your world. Amen!

And God said…

“Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬ These powerful words cut through the darkness, light came into that darkness and it was never the same again. There is power in the words of God! Jesus said to His disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Jesus knew His authority and spoke with that authority imparting Hsi authority to His disciples. We see Jesus in the gospels speaking with authority, people were healed and delivered. We have that same authority. Remember, light cuts through the darkness! Amen!
