New Life

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬, ‭3‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The verse in the whole passage that speaks to me most is: ‘don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshipping things of this world’.

I have a vivid memory of the time I worked as a financial planner. Many were worried that they would have enough in retirement to live well. One particular man stood out. He was an Anglican bishop. He was angry with me because he felt I had not gotten the best return on his investment. Underlying his anger was fear. I wish he could see me now. I sold all so I could follow the Lord and His love for people in Nepal.

Yesterday here in Nepal many people lost their lives in a flash flood that came down from Tibet. It was so severe that entire villages were swept away. In went through a tourist area and many foreigners were affected, many still missing. Desire took them to climb the Everest area and these people were either on their way there or returning to Kathmandu. We’re are they today? Do they stand before the Lord in faith or are they swept away into the great abyss?

We cannot take money and possessions with us. Who will get them when we are gone?

Yesterday Dolly Parton went to be with the Lord. This woman loved Jesus and served Him with her life. She chose the better way. I rejoice for her!

God is our example. Forgiveness must be the centre of our attitude. If it is at the centre then annoyance and offence at others is overridden with generosity. It is also the centre when Jesus also teaches: if a man demands your shirt, give him your cloak also ( Matt 5:40). To be able to behave like this you must be secure in God. He is your source and supply. Amen.

No surrender to fear

““Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Yesterday tens of thousands of youth stormed Parliament House here in Nepal. It has been reported that 20 were killed and hundreds were injured. I had stayed away from the area believing it to be unsafe and it was. Today, now that young people have been killed, there will be a greater strife brought about by parents of those who went to the protest. Milling children is never a good idea. Nepal has had a long history of strife. It has a civil war that lasted 10 years not so long back. Corruption fills the government and the people are not happy. However, underneath there are lovely human beings who need salvation. As in any race of people, there are people who have needs. I cannot be afraid of the uprest. I have a God who is the master of peace. He is good! I must trust Him. Amen!

Guard your heart

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. Unfortunately, after the prayer meeting I was best by refugees wanting my help. It became very frustrating and by the time the service started my insides were a mess.
