Listening and understanding

“Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This verse comes after the parable of the seed and the sower. We have heard it many times but do we fully understand?

We can apply this to sharing the gospel with unsaved people, but we can also apply it to ourselves. How many times have we been at church, heard a message and gone out and forgot what it was all about? This testimony indicates the condition of the soil in our hearts.

The condition of the soil is our responsibility. How do we keep it receptive to good seed? We keep it fertile by keeping watch over what we allow our hearts to engage with. Do we spend our time watching movies, playing games, or reading novels? Where does the word of God fit in our lives?

Are we engaged in the ministry God has given us? Do we know what that is? Sharing the gospel! No you do not need to be an evangelist to share the gospel!

What authority do we accept? Is the Lord Lord of our lives or are we? Are we committed to a life of self and ease? If we are the our hearts have become rocky and filled with thorns. The life that is in the word of God we do not engage in and are not taught by it.

Guard your heart

Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. The Good News

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”  Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Back in 1974, I turned 21. For my birthday my husband to be gave me a Bible with this verse underlined. In 1974 we were all on fire and wanting to share the gospel of Christ. It is still a potent verse today.  Why did Paul write this verse? In verse 14 he wrote: ‘I am obligated both to Greeks and babarians. Who were Babarians? Not the Romans, but rather the people of Spain and Asia Minor. Again why did he write verse 16? Why would he be ashamed of the gospel? A crucified Jew being God seemed strange to Roman ears. The Romans despised the Jews. Those crucified were the lowest of low in society.  Onky the Holy Spirit could make any testimony powerful, and this He did.
