Pride and humility

“In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.” 1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What causes us to be proud? Personal success does this. We fail to give glory to our God who enables us this success. We easily think we have done it when our God has made a way.

Pride causes us to mismanage our relationships with others. We treat them as less than ourselves. We use them as pawns in a game, and this is wrong. We are called to love and honour. How is our God wanting us to treat these people?

Yesterday, I had a call from my music teacher to ask me to attend my class a day earlier as today is a holiday in rememberance of the lives lost last year in the youth uprising. I was out of home but happily obliged. My teacher was covering piano students as well as my ukulele class. He rose higher in my estimation. He placed a small boy in my room playing a piano whilst I was trying to hear his instructions to me. Rather than become upset I joined in helping the little boy. We had some fun. I really enjoyed myself. 

There was a time when I would have been indignant, but praise God that time is past. What fun I would have missed and what little lives I would have missed. I rejoice that He gave me this opportunity.

I am learning ukulele just so I can speak Nepali to Nepali people. It is forcing me to speak the language I am learning rather that fall back into the comfort of English.

God gives us joy when we lay down our own arrogance and pride. His ways are delightful indeed. Amen!

Guard your heart

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. Unfortunately, after the prayer meeting I was best by refugees wanting my help. It became very frustrating and by the time the service started my insides were a mess. The Good News

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”  Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Back in 1974, I turned 21. For my birthday my husband to be gave me a Bible with this verse underlined. In 1974 we were all on fire and wanting to share the gospel of Christ. It is still a potent verse today.  Why did Paul write this verse? In verse 14 he wrote: ‘I am obligated both to Greeks and babarians. Who were Babarians? Not the Romans, but rather the people of Spain and Asia Minor. Again why did he write verse 16? Why would he be ashamed of the gospel? A crucified Jew being God seemed strange to Roman ears. The Romans despised the Jews. Those crucified were the lowest of low in society.  Onky the Holy Spirit could make any testimony powerful, and this He did.
