All scripture

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just think, all scripture was only the Old Testament, and as someone pointed out recently, Abraham had none and yet he was faithful. There was nothing written down until Moses. He was the first to be educated in writing. Until Moses there were only stories handed down.

We who live in modern times are so blessed. We have all scripture on a small hand held screen. We do not need to turn pages, all we do is scroll. And yet we believe!

Jesus said, “blessed are those who have never seen but still believe.”(John 20:29) the disciples were the only ones to see Jesus. They were blessed indeed!

I am grateful for the New Testament. I love the gospels and see my saviour in action. I love the epistles that deal with issues and encourage us in the ways of righteousness. I enjoy the prophets, I appreciate the psalms, especially when things go wrong. I also love the boldness and faithfulness of Daniel.

Let us not ignore the feast we are given. It is through scripture that we are corrected and grow. Lay aside entertainment and read scripture and mature. Amen!

Doing to others

““Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This verse, in some bibles begins with a ‘therefore’ and comes after verses describing how God the Father gives good gifts to His children.  It infers generosity towards others. God is our example. Forgiveness must be the centre of our attitude. If it is at the centre then annoyance and offence at others is overridden with generosity. It is also the centre when Jesus also teaches: if a man demands your shirt, give him your cloak also ( Matt 5:40). To be able to behave like this you must be secure in God. He is your source and supply. Amen.

Guard your heart

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. Unfortunately, after the prayer meeting I was best by refugees wanting my help. It became very frustrating and by the time the service started my insides were a mess. Afterwards I knew I should have waited until after church to talk to them and I should have places boundaries in place. Even though I do not represent all the refugees they see me and c...

Christ is enough

“For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬ In the book of Galatians Paul is addressing religiosity. The Galatians are being deceived into following a doctrine that tells them they must be circumcised as well as receiving Christ.  It is interesting that when people become convinced to be religious they then start destroying one another. Self-righteousness has that effect. We start to believe ‘I am so good, you are less than me because you do not do what I do!’ Paul’s whole message is Christ is enough! In Him is all the freedom we need. There is nothing more I can do to be a Christian. I must follow Him! Amen! Christ is enough for me!
