How to remain sharp
“For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” Hebrews 6:10-12 NLT
A few months ago I saw a little man out the front of my flat with a bicycle wheel and pedals with which he use to create a sharpening tool for knives and scissors. My landlady was there getting knives sharpened. I rejoiced as my best knife was becoming blunt. For 50R it was transformed. I was very grateful and thanked the man. His face lit up with the best smile.
This reminds me that I must stay sharp as a Christian. I do so by seeing others as a Jesus sees them and caring for them. He is the sharpener. As I watch Him in the gospels I see Him pour out His life for others. This week I am doing Bible study with friends and we are looking at chapter 4 of Luke. Jesus is beginning His ministry. The chapter is full of action. Jesus is healing the sick and casting out demons. He is also rejected by His hometown and bases His ministry in Cappernaum, near the sea.
No one could ever accuse Jesus of being dull. He is full of life. This is how I must be. It is not time for me to sit around and contemplate my navel.
Stay sharp! Amen!
