I am with you

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This scripture is a word given to Israel, the whole chapter is about how God will defend them. However, us Christians take courage from these words of promise from the Lord.

Right now there are 40 plus Christians in hospital in Jordan, having been attacked by terrorists. The king of Jordan vows a response and have his intelligence workers seeking the perpetrators. Those attacked were Greek Orthodox in faith.

May those injured take hope in God’s promises and seek Him in faith for their healing. I pray they see their God and His hand moving forward.

We, Christians, can take for granted our God’s protection and not seek it actively in faith. We are called to live by faith. I know that yesterday as I attended church here in Nepal I took for granted that I could attend unopposed. I know Christians in China and North Korea seek the Lord’s protection continually. They live under threat of death or imprisonment. They are not alone there are many nations where this is the case. Praise God I have not experienced it. However, may I not take my God’s protection for granted. Amen!

Doing to others

““Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This verse, in some bibles begins with a ‘therefore’ and comes after verses describing how God the Father gives good gifts to His children.  It infers generosity towards others. God is our example. Forgiveness must be the centre of our attitude. If it is at the centre then annoyance and offence at others is overridden with generosity. It is also the centre when Jesus also teaches: if a man demands your shirt, give him your cloak also ( Matt 5:40). To be able to behave like this you must be secure in God. He is your source and supply. Amen.

Guard your heart

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. Unfortunately, after the prayer meeting I was best by refugees wanting my help. It became very frustrating and by the time the service started my insides were a mess. Afterwards I knew I should have waited until after church to talk to them and I should have places boundaries in place. Even though I do not represent all the refugees they see me and c...

The Good News

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”  Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Back in 1974, I turned 21. For my birthday my husband to be gave me a Bible with this verse underlined. In 1974 we were all on fire and wanting to share the gospel of Christ. It is still a potent verse today.  Why did Paul write this verse? In verse 14 he wrote: ‘I am obligated both to Greeks and babarians. Who were Babarians? Not the Romans, but rather the people of Spain and Asia Minor. Again why did he write verse 16? Why would he be ashamed of the gospel? A crucified Jew being God seemed strange to Roman ears. The Romans despised the Jews. Those crucified were the lowest of low in society.  Onky the Holy Spirit could make any testimony powerful, and this He did. The book of Romans is a powerful letter about the truth of the gospel. Peopel are saved by faith. Faith is not the cause of salvation,...
