Great or Least in the Kingdom
Therefore whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever practices and teaches these commandments will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19
We live in a day when the boundaries are constantly shifting. This is because we live with relativism. Relativism states the law will be whatever I deem it to be in my circumstances. (my version)
I had a conversation with my 19 year old boarder the other night. It was a general conversation about the state of our world. She had questions around why and I explained that mankind will continue to try and determine what truth is based on themselves because they have made themselves a god. A teenager sees past the arrogance and profession of right to the truth. They see the fake, easily.
The problem with this way of thinking and being is we are not God and are unable to do God stuff. We cannot then turn around and accuse God for failing us for we have, by our behaviour told Him He is irrelevant.
What we fail to understand is that He is God and not a puppet they we play when it suits us. He waits for us to 'get it'. When we are done with kicking and squealing and stomping out spoilt feet He is still there, 'never changing, always the same, yesterday, today and forever'.
His ways and only His ways are perfect and lead to life. Jesus went on the the following passages and talked about murder and adultery. He said that the act of murder does not stand alone, when we have anger and wish our brother dead is the same. The act of adultery is not the only thing covered by the law so is the lust of the eye and the wrong thoughts about another person.
We cannot self-righteously strut and preen ourselves and pretend we have never hated or lusted for we have. With the woman caught in adultery Jesus impressed on her accusers 'he who is without sin cast the first stone.' To the woman He gave the grace of forgiveness. He was without sin but did not cast a stone, He was the only one who had the right and He didn't.
Today, Jesus is the only one who has the right to accuse and doesn't. We are free from judgement as we trust in Him, we are also relieved of the duty of judgement, we have no right.
As we live His way we release the kingdom of God to come to earth. Amen!
