Coping with Failure

And Simon Peter followed Jesus (after His arrest) and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.
But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought Peter in.
Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, "you are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" he said, "I am not". John 18:15-17

Here are two disciples who knew their Lord. One was known to the high priest, the other not.

We know the one who was known was John. Having been known to the high priest did not appear to trouble John yet not being known troubled Peter and caused him to deny the obvious.

Have you ever felt out of your depth and thus behave in an untrue manner?
We are all caught at times and it is in those times when we are uncomfortable we behave contrary to how we would otherwise.

Peter was having a 'reality check'. He thought he knew how he would behave but found he was yet far from willing to be associated with Jesus, let alone die for Him.

However the day would come when he would be ready.

If you find yourself denying your Christianity, don't go and hang yourself as Judas had done but go and repent and ask the Lord for His grace to grown into a true disciple.

God is good and He does not turn us away. We can always go to Him and receive forgiveness, our foolishness is just that but by grace we can grow. Amen!
