Blessed to Bless

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 1John 16,17

John is really labouring love. Why? Perhaps the readers, like us, were
too quick to move on and gloss over the depth of the truth.

We can get so busy in our own world that we fail to acknowledge, with our hearts, what our eyes see.

What are the needs of my brothers and sisters?

The more I am endowed with material possessions the more I am called to give and the Lord is not happy with any old gift, He is into lavish giving.

Tonight on the news on the ABC there was an interesting survey thrown in. Are rich people mean or generous?
There was a school of thought that said they were generally mean and inconsiderate yet people like Dick Smith and Bill Gates were cited as very rich and very generous. We were then advised to keep a good attitude and be generous with our time, money, attitude etc. People really appreciate a smile, a driver who takes time to make room for others. Generous people are generous with all of them, not just segmented parts.

Yesterday I sent my sister, who is in hospital, flowers and the Lord had me be very generous. Tomorrow I will drive down to Newcastle to see my sister and I will see for myself what my dollars bought. These flowers cost me something, I stretched way beyond where I have ever been, but my sister needed to know she was special. The flowers were not about me but my sister. God used me as a source of blessing.

I used to know a couple that, every day, looked for someone to bless.! They inspired me.

Who is God wanting you to bless today? You have been given so that you may give. Go and enjoy being a child of God! Amen!
