I love You, O Lord my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Ps 18:1-3
This Psalm was written by David when God delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
David wrote many Psalms, often declaring God as his deliverer even before the event.
The Lord delights when we confess the victory before we see it and better still when we sing his praises.
Praise clears away the brass and the harassing hordes. God comes quickly, on the wind of heaven, in response to the music that He delights in, our voices.
David, above, is declaring that God is his rock and his fortress. The thing is, He is, irregardless of circumstance.
He is our reward! Our prize! Our gift!
He is our strength but only as we avail ourselves of it. It is like having $1m in my purse and struggling to budget and work out how to afford $100 worth of groceries when I already have the supply, I just have to act on it.
David's circumstances were quite strained at times, David who have had serious reasons to doubt God's promise that he would be king.
Circumstance is a passing period, what does God's word say?
'Let God arise, His enemies be scattered, let God, let God arise!'
