Cost of Sin
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness, I am bent over and brought low; all day long I go around in mourning. For my loins are full of burning pain and there is no health in my body. I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart. Psalm 38:5-8
Who has ever been like this? I would hazard to guess all at one time.
Foolishness is something we all indulge in at one time or other in our lives and yes we pay the price.
Drinking, eating, driving, all in excess brings a payday. Headaches, belly aches, wallet aches are just a few consequences. Yet we cannot escape the cost of sin. We know the price of murder and stealing, what about adultery, gossip, jealousy, criticism? These all carry a penalty.
The payment may not be required for a long time, much like: 'buy now and pay in 12 months time'. You might enjoy the interlude but the price is greatly inflated when pay day comes.
David knew well the answer.
In verses 21,22 he says: ' Lord do not abandon me;
My God, do not be far from me.
Hurry to help me, Lord, my savior.
