Handing Out Torches

And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself as a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. Ephesians 5:2

My Jesus walk this earth and loved the unlovely, He gave Himself in friendship to the ungodly, He ate with them, talked with them and brought them through to an understanding of the things of God, He healed them of all their diseases.

This morning I was inducted into a local Rotary Club here in my community of Tamworth, NSW, Australia. Most of the members in the group are worldly and make crude sexual jokes. I don't participate but show them I care for them as individuals.

I try to remember things that are important to them like: their sick relatives, their attempts to restore their marriages, their health, their troublesome children. Today one woman told me about her son who is an alcoholic and at 40 attempting to regain his life by putting himself in rehab. I told her I would pray for him. I pray the mercy and grace of Christ would touch him.

I carry the light and must, as Brooke Fraser says, 'hand out torches'. The following verses of the above scripture tells me not to be involved in sexual immorality or drunkenness. No I do not participate in what those around me do but I am sent as  light into a dark place.

This Christmas we have a role to play as a light into a dark place. Switch the 'on' button and go.
