Every year Jesus' parents travelled to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. When He was 12 years old, they went up according to the custom of the festival. After those days were over, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but His parents did not know it. Luke 2:41-43
My mother and I watched a few of the old 'Home Alone' movies about a child that gets separated from his parents at Christmas time. In each movie the mother is frantic at the loss of her son. I wonder what Mary and Joseph were going through. Here they were the guardians of the Son of God and they lost Him.
Unlike the boy in the movies Jesus went to church because He wanted to be there learning all about the scriptures, he had a passion for knowledge.
Jesus did not see anything wrong with being in the temple. Obviously He stayed somewhere. Why did the Pharisees and scribes not wonder as to why a boy was alone in the temple? What sort of questions did they ask? What answer did Jesus give to placate them?
In the movie Home Alone 2 the young boy ends up in New York while his family goes to Florida. He loves New York because it has the biggest Christmas tree at the Rockefeller centre, (I have actually been there just before Christmas one year and it is special) and it is cold. He is not afraid to be alone and fabricates a tale to fob off the reception staff at the hotel he stays at.
What did Jesus do? Where did he sleep for three days? What did he eat? We know He was content to be at the temple and when His parents chastised Him He said He was about His Father's business.
Jesus told the people that they must be like little children, simple in faith. He knew how to trust his Father, he has already done that as a child.
Where am I going with this? Stay simple in faith and trust the Father He loves you and has a handle on everything. Amen!
