Walking in the Spirit

Therefore put to death what belongs to your worldly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these God's wrath comes on the disobedient, and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. But now you must put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator. Colossians 3:5-10

How do I put to death my flesh? In myself I am capable of being good for about 5 minutes and then crash. I have to ask the Holy Spirit to take me beyond my failure, empower me and set me free.

We have the beautiful presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within. It is He who brings us to repentance and awareness of sin. It is He who empowers us to overcome. As we walk in the spirit we are liberated.

Just as I can determine to exercise daily and my flesh wails at the thought if pain my soul needs exercise  in thinking and meditating on God's word. My spirit needs more attention as when it is strong it steers and overcomes fleshly appetites. As I spend time in the presence of God and His word I am refreshed and made new.

Jesus went aside to spend time with the Father. He did not rely on His own strength. He was man just like us. His need for dependence on the Father was just as important. Our source and supply is Him. He is our strength. He is our reward. He is our accomplishment. He is all!

As we spend time with the Father we become like Him. W are made for greatness! Amen!
