Prepare the Way
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontus Pilate was governor of Judea.........God's word came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:
A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight!
Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low;
The crooked will become straight,
The rough ways smooth,
And everyone will see the salvation of God. Luke 3:1,2-6
John's message was: 'prepare the way of The Lord.' What does this mean? It means that a heart needs to be made ready to receive all God has for it. Just because both are in the same vicinity does not necessarily mean they will connect.
A person can go to church and miss it. They can stand in awesome worship and miss it. But a heart that is soft and ready will receive.
Smith Wigglesworth went to a tarry meeting and agonised to receive the Holy Spirit for days. He knew he had a lack and would not move on until he received.
Knowing I had a need of salvation came through The Lord revealing my sin and bringing me to a place of repentance. He then gently took me to water baptism and then baptism in the Holy Spirit. I did not need to tarry. Praise God!
I had search for 15 years to find Him in salvation. I did not know that salvation was what I needed I merely searched for Him. I knew I could not read the bible, it made no sense and it was a part of what drove me to Christ.
