The Sabbath

On the Sabbath, He passed through the grain fields. His disciples were picking heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them. But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"
Jesus answered them, "Haven't you read what David and those who were with him did when he was hungry- how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat? He even gave some to those who were with him." Then He told them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Luke 6:1-5

The Son of Man is a Messianic title. Jesus often referred to Himself with this name. As Messiah He is the same Lord who instituted the Sabbath regulations, which the Pharisees built into an overbearing burden.

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. Are you bound by it or freed by it? Do nagging thoughts tie you up in knots on Sunday with guilt about what you should and should not do. Read this scripture again!

The Pharisees are laughable yet Jesus did not call them idiots He explained the scripture.

It is important that we allow Jesus to be Lord of the Sabbath. He gave it to us to rest. I enjoy the rest. In fact I love the weekend, as it is different to the remainder of the week.
