Your Prayers Have Been Heard
" Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayers have been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call him John. There will be joy and delight for you, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit while in his mother's womb. He will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people." Luke 1:13-17
What an answer to prayer! Zechariah may have been praying in earnest as he entered the sanctuary of the Lord, or perhaps he had long given up. In his culture the absence of children meant judgement for sin and now he was going to be cleared. It is fitting that he was chosen to go into the sanctuary by lot, his blessing had come and even in his old age God was answering his prayer. Just as He had answered Abraham in his old age, so he was answering Zechariah and not only giving him a son but a son who would do great things.
Zechariah and Elizabeth would know great joy because of John, he would know the Lord from inside his mother's womb, no problem child would he be but he would grow to be a great man of God. What a blessing!
