Mercenary Believers

And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgement to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now, when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him. Acts 24:24-26

What does this passage show us about Felix? He was insincere and mercenary.

Do you experience this in your world? I do! There are folk who see you as a means to an end. Their heart is not with you, they are users and interested in their own welfare.

How does this make you feel? Me, it causes me to withhold grace an deal out law, because this is where they are at.

This gives me insight into God. He loves us and wants to give us grace but if we use Him and refuse to give our heart, then we get law, all performance based.

You could argue with me and say, "no God is not like that, he is loving." And I would say, "yes He loves everyone but does not like everyone."

We cannot use God as a cash cow, a servant of our own kingdom. He will not respond. He is God, He is creator, He is master, not us!

However, give Him your heart and you have a faithful, mightly friend. This is not about us it is about us in relationship with a mighty, loving God! Amen!
