The Art of War

Israel sent messengers to say to Sihon king of the Amorites: "let us travel through your land. We won't go into the fields or vineyards. We won't drink well water. We will travel the Kings Highway until we have travelled through your territory." But Sihon would not let Israel travel through his territory. Instead, he gathered his whole army and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness when he came across to Jahaz, he fought against Israel. Israel struck him with the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, but only up to the Ammonite border, because it was fortified. Numbers 21:21-24

The Israelites were learning. They were becoming warriors and less inclined to bow and scrape.

We can be buffeted by our enemies when we are naive and do not know the rules of encounter. As we engage again and again we grow in understanding for the art of warcraft.

I must confess that my biggest frustration is lack of experience. I am learning and growing strong. How about you? Are you still being pushed around? Put on the armour and accept you are in a battle, pick up your sword, the word of God, and go to battle with a song of praise in your mouth, let there be no complaining or you are defeated.

Well! What is it to be? Victory or victim-hood?

Know Your Sword!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
