Beliefs Tested
Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will run away, because it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'
But after I have been resurrected, I will go ahead of you to Galilee."
Peter told Him, "even if everyone runs away, I will certainly not!"
"I assure you," Jesus said to him, "today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times!"
But he kept insisting, "If I have to die with You, I will never deny You!" And they all said the same things. Mark 14:27-31
Testing shows us whether what we believe is based on falsehood or truth and only that based on truth stands.
Just as it is frightening to stand and watch all that you own be swept away by floods, so is it standing and watching all you believe go up in smoke.
Yet testing has to come otherwise we live in a fools paradise. If we press in to God and make Him our safety we will survive, emotionally and faithfully, if not physically.
The threat to the disciples was a loss of their own lives. Now they were seeing how important their lives were as opposed to Christ's life. He would not let them fight so flight was the only option they understood.
The truth would severely shake Peter. He had to go back to what he knew, fishing, to heal and this is where Christ went to heal him.
Truth will shake us and challenge us. Our faith will be sorely tested and only God knows if we will stand. He will sustain us strengthen us and carry us if necessary, if we run to Him we will know His comfort.
We see dear people being murdered for their faith in Iraq, whole families are being slaughtered. They have been enduring and now are with Him. Evil will lose but right now it's hatred for all that is good is running amok. My prayer is that our God will cover, sustain and strengthen our brethren. Amen!
