Son of God

At the festival (14:1; the festival of Unleaven bread) it was Pilate's custom to release for the people a prisoner they requested. There was one named Barabbas, who was in prison with rebels who has committed murder during the rebellion. The crowd came and asked Pilate to do for them as was his custom. So Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to release the King of the Jews for you?" For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed him over. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that He would release Barabbas to them instead. Mark 15:6-11

It is interesting that Barabbas' name ment 'son of the father,' and yet Jesus was the true Son of the Father. The people chose a criminal because the chief priests, who envied Jesus, manipulated them to ask for Barabbas.

Envy set up camp in dishonest hearts. Jesus accused the Pharisees of being white washed sepulchers. He told them they were full of dead men's bones. He knew them for what thy were and they hated Him because He represented the truth, which they avoided at all cost.

Pilate called Jesus, King of the Jews. He had asked Jesus if He was this and Jesus said: "You have said so." Pilate accepted this but the Pharisees rejected it. Pilate knew authority the Pharisees usurped it.

I am grateful I know the One who speaks truth. It is His truth that sets me free. Amen!

Today we have heard how actor Robin Williams killed himself and had suffered with depression. This man needed an encounter with the truth  bearer. His truth is the only power that can set us free from all that troubles us. He is my freedom, my refuge. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
