Stay Awake Peter

Then He came and found them sleeping. "Simon, are you sleeping?" He asked Peter, "Couldn't you stay awake one hour? Stay awake and pray so that you won't enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Mark 14:37,38

Only one or two hours previous Peter had asserted that he would not desert Jesus but here he was deserting Him when He needed him the most.

Peter was about to experience one of the worst moments of his life and prayer was the further war thing from his mind.

Jesus could see Peter's fallibility but Peter was blind. The test would show Peter who he really was.

How can I be a friend? How can I be a sister? How can I be a daughter? Not in my own strength certainly. However I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me.

This afternoon i invited over some new neighbors to have dinner and they came. As they left I second guessed myself: 'did I say anything that God could use?' 'Why did I say other things?'

The Lord spoke to my spirit: "don't try to be holy, I make you holy, be a friend, be who you are."

I can do that, as imperfect as I am He is willing to use me.
Amen!

Peter was far from perfect but Jesus chose him to be in the close circle. This encourages me.

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
