The Dream and the Boy
In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams that troubled him, and sleep deserted him. So the king gave orders to summon the diviner-priests, mediums, sorcerers, and Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. When they came and stood before the king, he said to them, "I have had a dream and am anxious to understand it."
Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king: "May the king live forever. Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation."
The king replied to the Chaldeans, "My word is final: if you don't tell me the dream and it's interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb, and your houses will be made a garbage dump. But if you make the dream and it's interpretation known to me, you'll receive gifts, a reward, and great honour from me. So make the dream and it's interpretation known to me." Daniel 2:1-6
Daniel had just completed his three years training as Nebuchadnezzar did not start his official reign until the second year of Daniel's training (according to Babylonian reckoning). He is now around 18 and because the local diviners could not help the king he and the three other Hebrew boys likewise.
The king's diviners enrage him and he orders all the wise men to be killed, this includes the Hebrew men. When Daniel hears about this he inquires as to why the kings order is so harsh. He discovers that the pagan wise men failed to satisfy the king. Daniel asks for time and goes to prayer along with Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. God gives Daniel the dream and the interpretation. Daniel goes to the king and tells him what the dream was and what it meant. The king is so impressed he makes Daniel ruler over the entire province of Babylon. Not bad for an 18 year old.
Daniel asks for positions for his friends and they become managers of Bablon and he stays in the king's court.
Daniel saves the day because he did not fear and went to prayer. God loves this gutsy approach, it honours Him and brings Him glory. Amen!
Where has God put you? What does He need you to do? How can you stand against evil without fear and call upon The Lord to honour you?
He has a plan. You can trust Him! Amen!
