A Corner Stone
Look! I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honoured cornerstone, and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame!
So honour will come to you who believe, but for the unbelieving;
The stone that the builders rejected- this One has become the cornerstone,
And
A stone for stumbling over, and a rock to trip over.
They stumble because they disobey the message; they were destined for this.
But you are a chosen race,
A royal priesthood,
A holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.
Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1Peter 2:6-10
Peter pulls scripture from Isaiah and Psalms to show that Jesus was the very stone from which the wall began, in his day a house began with a cornerstone. His presence caused the projections an measurements to be right. He is our beginning.
To those who reject Him He is a stumbling stone. You can picture this: a piece of rock or brick sticking out on a path you walk upon and keep forgetting is there and you constantly stubb you toes, most frustrating. Yet this frustration is for a purpose, to wake up those walking in darkness with the message: Jesus is the Way!
He is also the stone that the builders rejected. The religious leaders rejected Christ, demanding He be what they thought He should be, more religious and supportive of their own behaviour.
For me, who chooses Him, He calls me a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession. What's declaration! I am special for a purpose: to proclaim te praises of Him who called me out of darkness into His marvellous light.
I do this as I step into all He says us mine, as I walk as a priest, a royalty. I cannot walk defeated, crawling in the dust, underneath life's circumstances. I must walk upon the rubbish with my banner lifted high, I must confess and proclaim all He says about me. Amen!
