My Provider
For she thought, "I will go after my lovers, the men who give me my food and water, my wool and flax, my oil and drink." Therefore this is what I will do; I will block her way with thorns; I will enclose her with a wall, so that she cannot find her paths. Hosea 2:5b,6
The children of Israel had given their hearts to the providers of natural things, yet how easy is this to do. Have a look deep inside you heart and you will probably find that you rely on someone, or a whole lot of someones to give you happiness, provision and satisfaction. When anyone or anything else takes the place in our heart of our provider, He is jealous.
The Lord is. Instantly telling me: " Look at Me!" Even when I get an inkling of where my provision is coming from I cannot chase it but must chase the Lord. The reason I say this is because there are a lot of seemingly things in our world. It may seem that provision comes a certain way or by a certain person but they may be only the beginning or perhaps put there to get you ready for the next step. By allowing anyone to consume your attention you run the risk of missing the path. I speak from experience!
Other times I can merely think a thing and lo and behold there is the provision. It happened today. I thought I must soon consider a new mobile phone, my charger was not working, I had been given a solar charger but it did not fit and I was becoming aware that it might be time. At work I said to one of my employees, " I have to go out and buy a new phone charger and the phone rang with a provider I had spoken to before Christmas about a new mobile, half heartedly. Today she has a deal, so now I have a new iPhone. I have not trowled across the Internet looking at phones, I have not drooled over others. It was just time. I am inclined to make do. I have a motto: " if it is not broken, then stay away from the shop."
There is only One worth chasing, He has all the goods and all the timing and is smarter than you. Seek Him!
