When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry saying, "arise, take your wife and two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed, in the punishment of the city." And while he lingered, the angels took hold of his hand, his wife's hand and the hands of his two daughters, The Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
Then they said to him, "escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plains. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.
Then Lot said to them, " please no, my Lords!"
"Indeed now, your servant has found favour in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown to me by saving my life, but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die. See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one, please let me escape there( is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live." Genesis 19:13-20
Master Compromise is at it again. Lot is slow to leave Sodom and even now, in his own insight wheeling and dealing to get his own result.
Why is Lot considered righteous? We would have pressed the gong and said, " no more time, die with the rest."
In my mind, the fact that Lot is related to Abraham is all that saves him. He does not display much in the way of good character. This is much like us today.
Jesus is our righteous connection, !He intercedes for us, He paid the price of our salvation. In ourselves no good, redeeming thing saves us.
I am grateful to Jesus, for while I was yet a sinner He died for me.
If you think being good is how you 'earn' salvation, you are wrong. It is by accepting the saviour's sacrifice that I am set free, only His sacrifice is good enough. Amen!
