The People Respond
While Ezra prayed and confessed before the house of God, an extremely large assembly of Israelite men, women and children gathered around him. The people also wept bitterly. Ezra 10:1
Ezra's brokenness affects all the people. As he weeps and prays they respond with their own brokenness. The repentance felt is one leading to action. They were willing to separate from their foreign wives.
Imagine the problems this was going to cause, women and children sent packing. Would they have somewhere to go? Would their families receive them back? Would these families of the foreign races accept this behavior? Imagine being responsible for all this homelessness?
When we do what is wrong, there are consequences. If we do things in a back-slidden state, then get right with God, what happens to those we include in our sin? They are hurt, used and abused. We are responsible for our actions. Amen!
