Wise Giving

Remember this, the person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart- not reluctantly out of necessity for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work. As it is written: He scattered; he gave to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.
Now the One who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God. 2 Cor 9:6-12

The Lord is saying something. This morning I awoke at 4 burdened for souls. Somewhere in the world lives are being threatened and eternity is at hand for them. Many will be left in a state of loss and great need. I must be ready to give when the call comes not when it suits me.

When devastation struck the Philippines God lay on my heart to give and He provided the gift. I knew it was for the people and not me. When IS was beheading the saints in Iraq I knew I must send aid, God provided the gift. When a call comes from Him the gift is there. When a need is spoken about in the media or at church and the gift is not there I know that this is not one for me to give to, the Lord has this one covered.

In the past I have beaten myself up about not having anything to give. If I am diligent with what I have and live as one being made ready, I will always have the right gift at the right time. A surplus is not for me to waste on frivolous living, rather it is given for a purpose. The important thing for me is to discern what is wasteful living and what is Godly living. It is important I get this right.
